Folk Life Collections

The Museum’s Folk Life Collection that preserves the regional traditions of the Lower River is comprised primarily of tools for fishing, hunting and trapping and made by the people who used them. Waterman Oliver LaPlace was the subject of a Museum exhibition and many of the collection objects were made by him for his own use as a hunter, trapper and rail bird guide.  We have a small collection of local decoys and a larger collection related to the shad fishery. Related boats can be found in the Small Craft Collection.
